Arcannis - Strategy Revealed

To see an example of how skills are gained through leveling, start by entering a low level such as 2 and clicking View above. Then work your way up to 70. This will enable you to see which skills are best for your current level by comparing damage and healing calculations for your current skills.

Total Damage is the total damage done with a spell over its entire duration. For direct damage spells, the calculation is simple; it is the average of the lower and upper damage range of the spell. For damage over time and channeled spells, it is the sum of the damage of all ticks over the full duration.

Average Hit (or Avg DoT) is a calculation of how much damage each hit (or, for DoTs and channeled spells, what each tick) does. It is useful for figuring out the best spell for burst damage, as well as other things. For direct damage spells, it is the average of the lower and upper damage range of the spell. If it has a DoT portion as well, the value in parenthesis indicates the average hit of the DoT portion. For DoTs and channeled spells, the average hit is calculated by taking the total spell damage and dividing it by the number of ticks.

DPS (i.e., Damage per Second) is a calculation that indicates how much damage over time a spell is dealing. It is useful for comparing sustained damage against a target, as well as other things. For direct damage spells, DPS is calculated by taking the average damage of the spell and dividing it by the casting time. If there is a damage over time component to the spell, the damage is divided by the sum of the casting time + the damage over time duration. If there are both direct damage and damage over time components to a spell, these values are added together, and the breakdown will be in parenthesis. For instant spells, even though the damage is frontloaded (i.e., the damage occurs the moment the spell begins to cast, rather than at the end of the cast), the casting time is considered 1.5 seconds for calculations because this is the cooldown before another spell can be cast.

Damage per mana is calculated by taking the total damage and dividing it by the cost, be it mana, rage, or energy. If there are both direct damage and damage over time components to a spell, the breakdown will be in parenthesis.

+Spell % (or +Spell Damage/Healing benefit percentage) indicates how much +spell damage/heal from items is actually benefiting the spell. A 100% value indicates that the full bonus amount is augmenting the spell, a 50% indicates only half is, etc. The formula for this calculation varies for the type of spell, and there are several exceptions. For more information, please see WoWWiki.

Total Heal, Average Heal (or Avg HoT), Heal per second (hps), and Heal per mana are calculated in the same manner as the damage calculations above, except they are for healing.
